After a four-month renovation, In a Pig’s Eye, 148 Derby St. in Salem, reopened as Mercy Tavern on April 7 to much fanfare after a pair of back-to-back soft openings.
On the tavern’s first day, the bar hosted its popular 4-7 p.m. Friday blues jam session. The place was at capacity with a line out the door shortly after 4 p.m.
“I’ve always loved this space and have been coming here for 20 years,” said the establishment’s new owner, Patrick Schultz, in a mid-morning interview Monday. “It’s the right size for me, and I’ve always wanted to run a neighborhood bar.”
